The Stain
It's been a long time since we had this purple stain on the kitchen floor. "It's print on the tile," some say, though it is not present on any other similar tile, while others say it's some kind of a dye. Whatever it is, what is concerning us more is that the stain seems to be growing. Ever so slowly.
My wife and I, we've tried everything we could to get rid of it, or at least learn about it, but to no avail. We even consulted painters and masons, but they couldn't give a reasonable explanation.
As of now, we've decided to leave it alone.
Ignoring it seems to have slowed it down. By now it's gotten to about the size of a coaster, and the colour has changed from purple to deep brown. But as I said, we're ignoring it.
Just the last evening a friend of mine came for dinner, and the topic of the stain somehow came up. He seemed to have an absurdly different opinion about it. Very reasonably, and deductively, he stated that since it is growing, and there's no plant to make root in that place, or water leakage, it's got to be something alive. But as there is no organism that exhibits such characteristics as the stain, it might have something to do with the supernatural. Then he went on talking about some other supernatural incidents of that kind he'd heard of that were supposedly true.
I admit he was a bit tipsy that evening. And I am not one to believe in anything that is unexplained by science. But the sudden new perspective on the stain left me thinking. It was indeed something that hasn't been explained by any scientific theory that I know of.
It was around midnight today, that I heard a crash in the kitchen. A cat, or a mouse, maybe. I decided to check, and to look at the stain one more time, just out of curiosity.
If you're faint of heart you should perhaps not know what I found when I reached the kitchen. What I at first thought to be my wife looking for a midnight snack, there in the centre of the kitchen was the most grotesque humanly figure I had ever seen. Tattered clothes lined with moss, grimy hair covering most of the neck and shoulders, limbs sticking out at unnatural angles and a dark face with even darker eye sockets. Dripping from the empty eye sockets was what was perhaps blood onto the very spot wher the stain was, or used to be!
I know I will be awake tonight after reading... and as far as going to kitchen for midnight snack .... aa duh 🙄 - not anymore.
ReplyDeleteWell then I'm quite successful, I guess :P
